PART 3 (continued from the previous post) NORWEGIAN TRAVEL PHOTOS
After a quick visit in Eidfjord (which included a trail run up to a Viking burial site with over 350 mounds!) we made our way to Bergen and arrived to find a beautiful little port town and a delicious fish dinner. Another day of exploring there and we made our way by train, boat, train and train back to Oslo and on to visit the final two groups of family members. The final day with family was very exciting as Sam had only discovered them thanks to Ancestry.ca in January! It was such a fun experience for me to look around at these new family members and recognize familiar traits; eyes, cheekbones, etc, and realize that I have blood relations that I didn’t even know about on the other side of the world. All of the family we met up with on this trip were so welcoming and completely spoiled us and we LOVED it!
Arrival dinner in Bergen; wolf fish, prawns, ginger, veg.
Morning view of the Bryggen, UNESCO heritage site The Fløibanen to the top of the mountain overlooking Bergen Norwegian crows! A birthday dram of whiskey for my Sam’s bday 🙂Another crow!Macaroni and fish pie (strange but incredible combo) and very tender reindeer neck. Also, beer from a Norwegian friend’s brewery!
A very long and adventurous trip back to Oslo via a fjord cruise and the Flam railway.
The next day we headed out to see some of my people in Fredrikstad and took a small passenger ferry through the town on the river. Then back to Sylvi’s for old family photos and a stab at our family tree. Our family of Bruhns became Browns when they came to Canada. Who knew Husqvarna did more than just chainsaws??!!! The next day was the group of family Sam had rediscovered in January thanks to Ancestry.ca The ski jump my grandfather built

The little church in Fenstad, where Sam (who has a gorgeous voice) and the others sang the Christmas song Julekvad we wondered if this was where our great grandfather Einar might have got his start singing in choir and reading music. My grandmother in the middle with my super blond little aunt next to her on the left.Several generations back – amazing family photo! My great grandfather in the middle, my dad at the very bottom and Sam’s mom to his right. NORWEGIAN TRAVEL PHOTOS Our incredible parting gift, made by a sweet little old lady in town!
