Lani Imre is a local Squamish illustrator and painter. We actually met back in 2000 when we were in first year art school together in Nelson, BC and seventeen years later we’ve reconnected as neighbours here in Squamish. A couple of weeks ago she invited me to her cute little studio to photograph her in action and take portraits. There’s something so magical about being present and watching someone do something they love and are talented at. Lani is calm and confident and she paints and a few times I forgot to shoot as I was just so mesmerized by her work. And a little envious – my lack of painting ability is what led me to photography but I still feel like picking up a brush once in a while!
Lani went on from Kootenay School of the Arts to attend the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Concordia University in Montreal and completed a semester of independent study in Berkeley, California. She’s also an accomplished ceramic artist although painting is now her main means of expression. Take a moment to check out her website, her Facebook page and her Instagram as she’s always looking to meet new art-lovers.
PS the little muse with the big ears is Toto, a recent Mexican rescue that is incredibly cute and loving 🙂 SQUAMISH PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER
